To achieve various objectives with WinterBoard themes and on the Widgetation page, additional files have to be installed and settings have to be tweaked.
Unfortunately not everything can be switched on or off through themes.
You have to decide whether you want or need the settings below and then set them here and now.
Lock Screen Date Display
The date on top of the Lock Screen can be hidden by changing the font it uses to an invisible one.
The font needs to be installed and then you can set it to be used or not.
Lock Screen Dim Delay
To make widgets more useful you can install 'Lock Screen Dim Delay' by David Ashman - available in Cydia - to adjust the delay before the Lock Screen dims.
It also puts a preference into the Settings.app. Unfortunately the preference does not currently (May 13 2010) work on the .
You can install or remove just the library here.
The delay itself cannot be changed with a theme, but you can set its value here.
You can also create your own apps to change the delay on the fly; please take a look at the ' Jack the Scripter' page.
Home Screen Background
To make widgets visible on the Home Screen, the image the device uses must be transparent, otherwise it will cover the widgets.
Click on the button to make it so. You can undo this by choosing a wallpaper for the Home Screen in the Settings.app (which means that your widgets - if any - will be hidden.)
Note: be sure to set the wallpaper in Settings.app separately for Lock Screen and Home Screen; if you 'Set Both' then the Home Screen will use 'LockBackground.jpg' instead of 'HomeBackground.jpg'.
SummerBoard Mode
WinterBoard offers a setting to accommodate older themes made for SummerBoard (an old variant of WinterBoard.)
A side effect is that image widgets on the Home Screen are scaled improperly.
You can set 'SummerBoard Mode' off or on in WinterBoard.app, Settings.app or here.
It should be switched off unless you need it for other themes.
