Thought for the day (and all following ones :-)
Inform yourself before updating to a new version of OS X, iTunes or firmware!
More often than not, an update breaks iFuntastic and/or jailbreaking.
Take a Moment to Pay Tribute
to the iPhone Dev Team without whose efforts and tools the iPhone or iPod would be a lesser device...
Thank you, Dev Team, for your brilliant hacking - in the good sense of the word! Kudos to GeoHot and Comex for their work as well.
Their tools do the all important jailbreak (and more) which allows full access to a device's file system.
Download Jailbreaking Tools
Find the jailbreaking tools that are appropriate to your device online.
There are assorted conditions that should be met before running any of the tools and different possible complications.
Pay attention to the exact device, operating system and computer requirements!
Please understand that I cannot give support for these tools.
Here are some helpful links:
For the most up-to-date version, information and goings on, check the iPhone Dev Team blog.
To find out whether your device is jailbreakable and for firmware information, check the unofficial iPhone Wiki here and here.
Jailbroken but still Shackled!
Some of the tools (e.g. blackra1n, Spirit) do not install the AFC2 file service which iFuntastic needs for full read/write access.
If your device is jailbroken but iFuntastic still shows the status as 'Shackled', then that is most likely the reason.
Use Cydia to install afc2add (if available.) iFuntastic should then show the device status as 'Unshackled'.
If you need assistance to put your device into DFU mode to restore, you can find it on the Utilities & Troubleshooting page (and tab.)
